How long does the dental procedure take?

This is a frequently asked question by a lot of our patients and if you are here, it means you have wondered it too. So let’s answer that.

The First Step

This procedure starts with an appointment with one of our specialized doctors for your first consultation where it will be decided based on your oral health, your age and smoking habits, whether you are a candidate for the implants or you have to receive a treatment before being capable of moving forward.

The Scanning

After being qualified as a candidate, your dentist will define the trace of your treatment after seeing images of your mouth, which could be taken with X-rays or scanned with a 3D scanner.  Here at Esteem Dental implants we use the best technology, so that the procedure is easier not only for our professionals but also for our patients.

The First Surgery

The next visit in the process might take a little longer. Depending on the case, the surgeon proceeds with the tooth extraction, and titanium screws are placed in your jawbone by making little incisions in your gums, a process which lasts from 1 to 2 hours per implant.

The metallic posts work as an artificial root for your new implant, that is the reason why they are so important. And after all of them are where they are supposed to be, all you have to do is wait.

You must be wondering if this hurts. However, you will be sedated and won’t feel pain. Also, for you to stay calm, most patients say the posting hurts even less than the extraction.

The Healing

The healing process can vary from patient to patient, however, you should wait at least 3 months for your bone and your implant posts to integrate and heal (osseointegration), which will allow your implant to support the final restoration and a strong base for the implant. Here are some post-dental implant tips.

Once the healing is finished, the posts work as a root.

The Fitting

Once your mouth is fully healed, the abutments are being placed. This piece is placed between the implant and your new and permanent crown.

The so long awaited moment

After the abutment is perfectly fit, the moment you have been waiting for arrives. Your crafted crown can be placed. This crown is placed to look as natural as possible, so no one will notice it is an implant. And as you go back to your favorite routines, eating your favorite foods, laughing with confidence and promoting a more positive self esteem, you will even forget you have an implant.

On average, this is a 3 to 9 month procedure which is worth the wait, since the outcome will lead you to implants that last a lifetime. Now it is your time to take the first step and schedule a consultation with an Esteem doctor near you and see if you are a good candidate for our implants.
